Adamson IX survives UE

ADAMSON survived a gritty University of the East stand to escape with a 1-0 win and extend its unbeaten streak to eight yesterday in the UAAP softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Rizza Bernardino scored the marginal run for the Lady Falcons, who are two victories away from being  back-to-back champions.

In other games, University of the Philippines went again thru the wringer to defeat La Salle, 6-5 in extra innings, while University of Santo Tomas walloped Ateneo, 8-2.

The Lady Maroons solidified its solo hold of second spot with a 7-1 card, while the Tigresses notch their fourth win in eight starts in third place.

Adamson will next face UST on Wednesday before rounding up its elimination round assignments against UP on Feb. 11.

The Lady Warriors are now at 3-5, while the Lady Eagles and the Lady Archers fell to 1-7 and 0-8 records, respectively.

In men’s tennis, tournament newcomer National University blanked Ateneo, 5-0, to boost its bid for a first-ever finals stint  at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs banked on singles players Fritz Verdad, Leander Lazaro and Dheo Talatayod, as well as the doubles tandems of Michael Madrio and Noel Polero, and Al Khady Jainul and Carlos Oblea to post their sixth win in seven starts.  Theodore P. Jurado
