The San Miguel Beermen hope to bounce back from a recent setback as they face the Bangkok Cobras today in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City.
The Beermen came up short after losing to the Singapore Slingers, 63-71, recently at the latter’s home turf. Their next opponent in Bangkok will prove to be no easy customer either as the Cobras edged out KL Westport Dragons, 73-70.
Game time at 6 pm and will be televised live over Star Sports/ESPN.
To finally nail a third win in five games, the Beermen need to muster more from their lineup although imports Dalron Johnson and Doug Thomas along with top local Froilan Baguion combined for 44 points against the Slingers.
“We had a slow start again and the Slingers’ import (Don Dulay) hurt us with 23 points. Plus we have problems with a back up guard so Froilan (Baguion) had to play extended minutes,”said SMB coach Bobby Parks.
“Our top scorers Benedict (Fernandez) and Leo (Avenido) made only two of 16 attempts from the field. Despite that, we tied the game and it just so happen that we could not convert down the stretch,”he added.
Parks welcomes a home game after two straight games on the road.” It’s hard with all the travelling. Hopefully, this home game will help us get our bearings back,” he said.
The Beermen currently share fourth place with the Cobras, who relied on Michael Earl (20 points), Marvin Cruz 14 and Ratdech Kruatiwa (12) to hand the Dragons a first loss for a tie with the AirAsia Patriots at 3-1.
Still leading the standings is the Slingers with a 4-1 win-loss slate while the Chan Thailand Slammers are at solo third with a 2-3 mark. The Indonesia Warriors are at 1-3 while Saigon Heat brings up the rear at 0-4.
