Concepcion Elem. School (CES) and Mighty Sports-Hope Christian School (HCS) came away with a pair of straight-set victories to rule their respective divisions in the Toby’s Junior Volleyball League at the Toby’s Arena in Pasig City last weekend.
The CES spikers held off the De La Salle-Lipa (DLL) side, 25-18, 25-20, in the semis then got back at the Palanan Elem. School (PES) squad, 25-14, 25-23, in the finals, to capture the boys’ crown in the event sponsored by Toby’s Sports and organized by Metro Sports.
It was a sweet victory for CES which dropped a 22-25, 21-25 setback to PES in the elims but saved its best for last, fending off the latter’s fightback in the second set. PES beat Academy of God’s Children (AGC), 25-19, 25-12, in the semis.
Mighty Sports-HCS, on the other hand, demolished Colegio San Agustin, 25-17, 25-5, in the Final Four then overwhelmed DLL, 25-19, 25-13, in the finals to annex the girls’ crown in the tournament backed by Shakey’s, Mikasa and Asics.
DLL repulsed De La Salle-Zobel (DLZ), 23-25, 25-8, 25-10, in the semis but failed to neutralize the unbeaten HCS’ awesome power game and superb court coverage. Mighty Sports-HCS finished the tournament without a dropping a single set.
AGC nipped DLL, 25-12, 21-25, 29-27, to clinch third place honors in the boys’ side while CSA thwarted DLZ, 25-23, 25-16, for third in the girls’ division.
