NBA: Thunder beat Mavs in West rematch

DALLAS -- The Oklahoma City Thunder won the battle of the two Western Conference giants by beating the Dallas Mavericks 95-86 behind Russell Westbrook’s brilliant 33-point performance Wednesday.

Westbrook drained a key three pointer with 32.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Thunder a seven point lead, 92-85.

Westbrook then helped ice the win by making one of two free throws with 19.6 seconds left.

Kevin Durant finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds and Serge Ibaka had 11 rebounds for the Thunder who have a NBA-best 17 wins and four losses.

Jason Terry scored 25 points and Shawn Marion finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Mavericks who had their modest three-game win streak snapped.

Marion had 11 of his points in the first half as Dallas led 52-49 heading into the third quarter.

The Thunder led 71-66 at the end of the third but the Mavericks fought back to tie the score in the fourth before Oklahoma City closed it out with a 10-1 run.

Dallas dropped to 14-9 on the season as their star forward Dirk Nowitzki had an off night, shooting just two of 15 from the field and finishing with eight points and eight rebounds.

It was Nowitzki’s third game back after sitting out four games to rest a balky knee.

Mavericks veteran point guard Jason Kidd missed his third consecutive game with a strained right calf.

Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle was ejected from the game in the second half after he knocked the ball into the stands in frustration, hitting a spectator.

Carlisle walked over to the area where the fan was sitting and apologized before heading to the Dallas dressing room.

In Philadelphia, Andre Iguodala helped the 76ers take down one of the NBA’s top teams, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds in a 98-82 victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Iguodala outplayed Derrick Rose and stuffed a month’s worth of dazzling highlight video plays into one game. His one-handed dunks, around-the-back passes, and big 3s helped the Sixers lead the Eastern Conference-leading Bulls by 20 at the end of the third quarter.

In front of 18,325 fans, the Sixers’ confidence is skyrocketing along with the crowds at the Wells Fargo Center.

Thaddeus Young scored 19 points, Lavoy Allen had 15 and Lou Williams 14, all off the bench for the Sixers.

The Sixers (16-6) had used a soft schedule to race to their best start in nearly a decade. No padding their record this week. They beat Orlando on Monday, tamed the Bulls, and go for the home-week sweep against Miami on Friday.

The Sixers won their fourth straight game and improved to 12-2 at home. The Sixers didn’t win their 16th game last season until Game 39.

“They’re a very good team,” said an impressed Rose.

Wins against Orlando and Chicago should silence critics around the league who said the Sixers thrived because of an early schedule packed with lightweights from both conferences.

Long a scapegoat for being an $80 million player on a mediocre team, Iguodala walked off the court during a substitution late in the third quarter to a standing ovation.

In other NBA games, Orlando Magic nipped Washington Wizards, 109-103; Boston Celtics demolished Toronto Raptors, 100-64; New Jersey Nets turned back Detroit Pistons, 99-96; Indiana Pacers trampled Minnesota Timberwolves, 109-99; Phoenix Suns drubbed New Orleans Hornets, 120-103; San Antonio Spurs defeated Houston Rockets, 99-91; Portland Trailblazers overpowered Charlotte Bobcats, 112-68; and LA Clippers survived Utah Jazz, 107-105.

Over at Milwaukee, Brandon Jennings scored 31 points, including three 3-pointers in a critical stretch of the fourth quarter, and Milwaukee beat Miami 105-97 for the Bucks’ second win over the Heat this season.
