Angelicum stuns CSA in Shakey’s volley

Angelicum College (ANC) rode on a scrambling second-set victory to repulse Colegio San Agustin (CSA) in three and join three others in the early lead in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League NCR leg at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City last Sunday.

The ANC tossers fought back from a set down to sweep the next two and pull off a 20-25, 29-27, 25-18 win over their CSA rivals in Pool B in the opener of one of the eight regional tournaments culminating in the Tournament of Champions next month in Davao City.

Hope Christian School (HCS) trounced University of Santo Tomas (UST) in a duel of fancied teams, 25-17, 25-7, while National University (NUI) demolished Rizal High School (RHS), 25-15, 25-12, in Pool A action in the event sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Metro Sports.

Kings’ Montessori School (KMS) routed St. James Academy-Malabon (SJM), 25-8, 25-7, also in Pool B of the ninth staging of the tournament backed by Toby’s, Mikasa and Asics.

The other teams in the two-division, seven-team elims get to see action Saturday with the top two teams in both groups after the single round elims clashing in the crossover semis. The winners will dispute the NCR leg crown and a berth in the T-of-C slated March 21-24.
