SAN BEDA clinched the men’s title for a third straight season, while College of Saint Benilde booked the women’s crown at the end of the NCAA taekwondo tournament yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Red Lions collected 461.5 points to weather a stiff opposition from the Blazers, who again finished second with 344.75 points. Tournament host San Sebastian placed third with 249.75.
Gold medal winners Ron Alfred David (lightweight), Devy John Singson (flyweight), Ralph Bunda (finweight) and Ron Servito (middleweight) delivered the goods for San Beda, which now tied Letran as the league’s winningest team with five crowns.
The 19-year old Servito, who played his second season for the Lions, was named the tournament MVP.
San Beda won four silvers courtesy of Aljo Okamura (finweight), Dexter Rico (flyweight), Kevin Ngitngit (bantamweight) and Jheral Rulete (welterweight), while skipper Nino Patrick Ferrer (featherweight) and Alvince Cuvinar (welterweight) took home bronze medals.
St. Benilde scooped three men’s golds from bantam Glen Gacal, feather Ronnel Yadao and welter Dennis Rasaba, while heavy Almer Tano gave Arellano University its lone gold.
The Lady Blazers dethroned the Lioness with 323 points to seize the championship.
San Beda settled for the runner-up honors with 241.5, while Letran could only muster 234 points in third place.
