REIGNING five-time champion Far Eastern University barely forced a three-way tie for the lead with University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines, while women’s titleholder La Salle -Taft continues to pull away after the sixth round of the UAAP chess tournament at the FEU auditorium over the weekend.
The Tamaraws leaned on veteran Lennon Hart Salgado’s victory in Board 3 to nip the Green Archers, 2.5-1.5, to collect 17.5 points and tie the Growling Tigers and the Fighting Maroons.
UST posted a 2.5-1.5 triumph of Ateneo de Manila , while UP clipped National University, 3-1.
La Salle turned back Adamson, 3-1, to maintain its hold of the women’s leaderboard with 19 points.
The Lady Maroons and the Lady Bulldogs are on far second with 13.5 points.
UP drew with University of the East, 2-2, while NU also settled to a 2-2 standoff with UST.
In the other men’s match, the Falcons walloped the Red Warriors, 3-1.
The Lady Eagles downed the Lady Tamaraws, 3-1, in their distaff side duel.
Meanwhile, titleholder Adamson seeks to extend its winning run to seven against Ateneo as softball action resumes today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The Lady Falcons and the Lady Eagles (1-5) collide at 9 a.m.
In other games, the Lady Maroons (5-1) and the Tigresses (4-2) cross paths at 11 a.m., while the Lady Warriors (2-4) and the Lady Archers (0-6) capped the three-game bill at 1 p.m.
