SINGAPORE--San Miguel Beer vies for a third straight victory when it goes up against the Singapore Slingers today in the AirAsia Asean Basketball League at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The Beermen are just coming off a 68-59 victory over defending champion Chang Thailand Slammers, who were stunned by the combined 35 points by Dalron Johnson and Leo Avenido as the Philippine team (2-1) shrugged off a slow start.
“Although we have two straight wins now, we are still jelling. But winning on the road will definitely help the players get better under the conditions,”SMB head coach Bobby Parks said.
New import Doug Thomas, who replaced Richard Jeter, accounted for only 10 points but shone in other areas like defense as he posted three blocks and two steals.
“Doug did not score as much in our last game but that is understandable as he is only playing his second game. But he is helping us a lot in defense,”said Parks, who looks for bigger production from his import in the 8 p.m. game.
Parks is looking forward to a tough game as the Slingers are playing in their home turf. “Singapore is one of the stronger teams in the league and one with the better imports,” he said.
In Singapore’s 73-48 rout over the Bangkok Cobras, Slingers import Louis Graham unrelentingly pounded it inside for 14 points and 13 rebounds while fellow reinforcement Donald Little had nine points and 17 rebounds. Local Wong Wei Long from the Singapore Slingers, who had 15 points, was also a scoring threat.
