La Salle keeps card intact in 3 fronts

DE LA SALLE kept its unblemished record in three fronts in UAAP Season 74 on Sunday, extending its winning streaks in women’s volleyball as well as in men’s and women’s tennis.

The Lady Archers disposed of the Tigresses despite yielding 31 points due to unforced errors, 25-20, 25-22, 25-13, to secure the twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals at the San Juan Arena.

In tennis at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila, the Green Archers downed the Red Warriors of University of the East, 4-1, their seventh straight victory built around victories by Ernesto Pantua, Lorenzo Villamor and Michael Basco in singles and Pemrik Alina and Kyle Cordero in doubles.

The Lady Archers did not disappoint and blanked the Lady Eagles of Ateneo, 5-0, to stay in control unscathed. Reigning Most Valuable Player Reggie Santiago, Aira Putiz and Martina Guba won their singles ties and the tandems of Trudy Amoranto and Kirstie Barraquias and Enah Baba and Regina Lucero clinched their doubles matches to extend their streak.

Inspired were the Lady Archers in their volleyball match against the Tigresses that they followed their coach’s instruction to the letter after failing to curb their unforced errors.

“Sinabi ko sa mga bata na isipin na lang nila kung saan tayo nagkamali, especially sa service, doon na lang tayo bumawi.  Mabuti at nag-respond sila sa pamamagitan ng magandang blocking at receiving,” said De La Salle’s women’s volleyball coach Ramil de Jesus.
