Adamson, UP IXs strike


REIGNING titlist Adamson University and University of the Philippines kept the 1-2 positions in UAAP Season 74 softball after contrasting victories yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Adamson made mincemeat of De La Salle in only four innings, 11-0, while UP had to pour it all in the fourth inning to beat Ateneo, 8-3.

The Lady Falcons remained unbeaten in six games, while the Lady Maroons continued to breathe down their necks with five wins and one loss.

In men’s tennis at the nearby Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, De La Salle defeated Ateneo, 4-1, at the start of the second round of eliminations and extend its winning streak to six matches.

Defending champion University of Santo Tomas  beat UP, 3-1, for its third win in six outings in the other men’s match. The afternoon matches between National University and University of the East (UE) in the men’s and between De La Salle and Ateneo in the women’s were rained out.

Julie Marie Muyco starred for the Adamson softbelles with three runs and three strikeouts, impressive numbers which Rizza Bernardino complimented with two runs and     also three strikeouts.

Queeny Sabobo and Michelle Lentija also contributed significantly for Adamson with two runs each.    

“So far, so good.  Sana magtuloy-tuloy lang itong ipinapakita ng mga bata sa second round,” said coach Ana Santiago, whose wards are unbeaten in 16 matches since last season.

In the other softball match UST blanked UE, 3-0, to remain in third place with a 4-2 record. The Lady Warriors are running fourth with 2-4, while the Lady Eagles and Lady Archers dropped to a 1-5 and 0-6 card, respectively.
