PALANAN Elem. School (PES) and Hope Christian High School (HCS) try to live up to their hype as they go for the titles in their respective divisions today in the Toby’s Junior Volleyball League at the Toby’s Arena in Pasig City.
The PES spikers take on the Academy of God’s Children (AGC) side in the crossover semis with the winner disputing the boys’ crown against the victor in the other semis duel pitting De La Salle-Lipa (DLL) and Concepcion Elem. School (CES).
HCS and Colegio San Agustin (CSA) kick off the semis matches at 10 a.m. to be followed by the other Final Four duel between De La Salle-Zobel against De La Salle-Lipa A (DLL). The winners square off in the afternoon for the girls’ title in the event sponsored by Toby’s Sports and organized by Metro Sports.
PES and DLL swept their respective divisions in the elims with similar 6-0 cards while HCS and DLZ likewise posted identical 5-0 romps, making them the favorites to clash for the titles in the event featuring the country’s leading high school volley teams.
But the CES and AGC tossers, who both finished with 5-1 marks, remain confident of their chances along with DLL and CSA, which wound up with similar 4-1 slates, in the tournament backed by Shakey’s, Mikasa and Asics.
In fact, DLL and CSA closed out their elims campaign with a pair of shutout wins last weekend to underscore their readiness for the championship.
