ELIMINATION round topnotcher University of Perpetual Help System Dalta stakes its unbeaten run against Emilio Aguinaldo College today as the NCAA women's volleyball semifinals begins today at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Lady Generals were the biggest thorns in the Lady Altas’ campaign so far, which saw the Las Piñas-based spikers sweep all their nine matches in the elims.
That’s why Perpetual Help is trying to level up its game a notch higher in its 10 a.m. showdown with EAC.
Reigning six-time champion San Sebastian College and Letran cross paths in a rematch of the Season 86 finals at 3 p.m.
The four semifinalists will undergo in a short but tough single-round phase, where the top two teams will advance to the best-of-three championship series.
The Lady Altas were severely tested before escaping with a 28-26, 25-17, 16-25, 22-25, 15-12 squeaker of the Lady Generals last Dec. 10.
“Ibang laban ang semifinals, hindi pa kami nakakaseguro. Sinabi ko sa mga bata na huwag magkumpiyansa dahil lahat ng team gusto tayong talunin,” said Perpetual Help coach Mike Rafael.
EAC is on its second straight Final Four stint.
Despite fielding in the weakest line-up in recent years, the Lady Stags were able to finish at 6-3 to tie the Lady Knights and the Lady Generals and advance to the semifinals.
On their only meeting in the tournament on Jan. 13, Letran subdued San Sebastian College, 25-22, 25-20, 25-17, one of the two victories by the Lady Knights which gave them the last ‘Final Four’ ticket.
Since multi-titled coach Roger Gorayeb in the mid-80s, the once-mighty Lady Stags were never dislodged in the Top 2.
