NEW Delhi, India -- GM Oliver Barbosa emerged as the undisputed champion in the 10 th Parsvnath International GM chess tournament at the Ludlow Castle Sports Complex in Civil Lines here Monday.
Barbosa outduelled IM Shyam Nikil (ELO 2482) in the 11th and final round to finish with 9.5 points on eight wins and three draws.
Another Filipino campaigner, GM John Paul Gomez, shared second to third places with IM Babu Lalith of india with nine points.
Gomez drew with untitled Ma Qun of China, while Lalith beat felow Indian IM K. Rathnakaran .
In fourth to fifth places with 8.5 points are GM Mark Paragua of the Philippines, who smothered GM Evgeny Gleizerov of Russia, and Qun.
The fourth Filipino entry, GM Richard Bitoon, finished in a tie for 66th to 94th places with 6.5 points.
A total of 304 players from 14 countries from all over the world saw action in the prestigious, two-week long competition.
India had 274 players, while China and the Philippines fielded four players each.
The Filipinos’ campaign in New Delhi is part of the country’s preparation for this year’s 38th World Chess Olympiad in Turkey.
