A JAIL guard of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) was shot and seriously wounded by riding-in-tandem suspects allegedly in connection with the series of surprise raid at New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) the other day in Muntinlupa City.

Prison Guard 1 Arnel Bermoy, 44, was rushed to undisclosed hospital due to several gunshot wounds in the body from a cal. .45 gun. He was already in stable condition following several hours of operation.

His attackers escaped after the gun attack.

Senior Supt. Nicolas Salvador, chief of Muntinlupa City police, said the shooting incident took place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday on Rizal St., Bgy. Poblacion, Muntinlupa City.

He said investigators are looking at the series of “Oplan Galugad” at the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) where the victim was part of the raiding team.

He, however, decline to give more details but indicated that drug syndicates that were affected by the series of raids could be behind the shooting incident.

Meanwhile, BuCor operatives again raided yesterday the NBP’s maximum security compound (Building 3 of Quadrant 3), the 20th in the series of Oplan Galugad that started since last November.

NBP head Supt. Richard Schwarzkopf Jr. said the surprise operation yielded “fewer” contraband items, which include cellular phones and the P83,000-fund of “Happy Go Lucky Gang.”

The raiding team also tore down the extravagant quarter of “Batang Cebu Gang.”

Schwarzkopf said Oplan Galugad will continue until they got rid of all contraband items at the NBP.
