UNBEATEN La Salle seeks to move closer to claiming a twice-to-beat incentive in the Final Four when it plays University of the East today in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The defending champion Lady Archers are heavily favored to repeat over the Lady Warriors, who are trying to remain in contention for the last semis berth, in the duel set at 2 p.m.
Ateneo hopes to rebound from a four-set loss to University of Santo Tomas and get back on track for a semifinal berth when it takes on National University in the day’s other match at 3:30 p.m.
Toting a 6-2 mark in second place, the Lady Eagles are now only holding a one-game lead over the Tigresses (5-3) in the race for the second twice-to-beat slot in the semifinals.
La Salle continues to lord it over in the standings with a 9-0 card, and the possibility of Taft-based spikers’ completing a rare double-round eliminations sweep remains high.
The Lady Archers won all of their 14 assignments last year, but they were forced to forfeit one win in the first round due to fielding two ineligible players.
At 3-5, UE is trailing one and a half game behind Far Eastern University and Adamson, both tied at No. 4 with identical 5-4 records, in the hunt for the last ‘Final Four’ ticker.
The Lady Eagles, who are seeking their first title in the league, should lessen the offensive burden of Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio and Gretchen Ho if they want to be a force to reckon with.
