DEFENDING champion Rizal Technological University beat La Salle-Dasmariñas, 25-17, 28-26, 25-22, in Game 2 of their best-of-three championship series in the 19th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the RTU gymnasium in Mandaluyong.
It took the Lady Thunder an hour and 14 minutes to turn back the Lady Patriots and tie the series at 1-1 in this spikefest supported by Mikasa and Molten Balls, and Ani AgriNurture, Inc.
The Lady Thunder capitalized on a net error by Lady Patriots' veteran Iari Yongco and a block from their own Emcee Tanagon and Sally Varua to shatter a 26-all deadlock and win the second set, before holding off a spirited Lady Patriots' rally in the final set behind a crosscourt spike by Princess Bonifacio to secure the win.
The Edgar Barroga-coached Lady Thunder will have a chance to go for their second straight crown when they clash with the Lady Patriots on Friday at the Pasay City Sports Complex.
The Lady Patriots earlier took Game 1 when they prevailed, 23-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16, 15-10 last Monday at the Ugnayang La Salle gymnasium inside the DLSU-Dasmariñas campus.
Earlier, the Philippine School of Business Administration Lady Jaguars prevailed in their fight for third place with the Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite Lady Vanguard, 25-16, 25-15, 25-14.
In Game 1 of the men’s action, the PMMS Mariners opened their best-of-three series with the La Salle-Dasmariñas Patriots with a win, hacking out a 23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-21 triumph.
The JR Libai-mentored Mariners will seek their first-ever crown against the Patriots when they meet at 10:30 a.m. today at the PMMS gymnasium in Las Piñas.
