La Salle spikers make UAAP semifinals


DE LA SALLE breezed to a 25-10, 25-18, 25-20 victory over Far Eastern University  to advance to the Final Four of UAAP Season 74 women’s volleyball at the Arena in San Juan.

The victory was the ninth straight for the Lady Archers, who are on track to retaining the crown by making the semifinals for the fourth straight season.

Adamson University checked a two-game skid by beating National University, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18, in the other women’s match to stay on course to a Final Four berth with a 5-4 record that tied the Lady Falcons with the Lady Tamaraws at fourth place.

In men’s volleyball, Kirk Beliran and JR Labrador combined for 26 points as FEU scored a 25-9, 25-11, 25-11 win over Ateneo to regain the lead with a 7-2 won-lost record, while John Hendrix Competente had 15 hits in leading Adamson University (6-3) past University of the East (0-9), 25-20, 25-21, 25-6.

At the Ateneo field in Katipunan, defending champion University of the Philippines  was held to a scoreless draw by FEU and De La Salle was held to a 1-1 draw by University of Santo Tomas (UST) in men’s football action.

In women’s softball at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, titleholder Adamson and UP remained unbeaten in three matches after posting abbreviated victories also yesterday.

The Lady Falcons ripped the Tigresses, 5-1, while the Lady Maroons blanked the Lady Eagles, 11-0, in only four innings.

Gen Ytario hurled a one-hitter and belted a two-run double for the Lady Maroons, with skipper Alex Zuluaga and Eliza Legarte contributing two runs each.

In another softball game, UE shut out De La Salle, 13-0, also in four innings as the Lady Warriors improved to a 2-1 record while sending the Lady Archers to 0-3, the same record as the Lady Eagles.
