8:30 p.m. -- MOB Packers vs. Skyforce

MAPUA-Mighty  Sports  resumes its campaign in  the  MBL Invitational Cup  when  it  takes on  fellow  NCAA  campaigner  Lyceum  of  the  Philippines University-Yummy  Hotdogs  at the  Lyceum  gym in Intramuros, Manila.

Game time  is 7 p.m. with odds about even between the Cardinals and  the Pirates.

The two  teams  split  their two matches during  the  87th NCAA  season last  year,  finishing  with  identical 7-11 win-loss records  for a  tie  for  fifth  to sixth places.

Mapua and  Lyceum are  two of four NCAA teams currently seeing action in  the league as guest teams.

(The  other  two  teams  are  Jose Rizal University and   Letran  College).

Handled by  coach  Chito Victolero,  the   Cardinals defeated Skyforce  Brokerage  (63-54)   in  its first  assignment  last  Nov. 22 before   losing  to  Jose  Rizal  (63-65)  last Dec. 1  and  University of  Santo  Tomas  (55-59)  last  Dec. 6.

The  Bonnie Tan-mentored Pirates, on  the other  hand, dropped their first four assignments  against  Letran, Wang’s Ballclub, Skyforce and   MOB  Packers before   winning  by default   over Now TV-Trinity University.

In  the  second  game,  Skyforce  and   MOB  square off   at  8:30 p.m.

Skyforce  (2-2)  is  being  handled  by coach June Longalong, while  MOB  (1-4)  is  being handled   by  playing   coach  Richie Melencio.

Last Saturday, JRU  brought down Wang’s Ballclub, 96-93,  to keep  its  perfect  record  with five  straight wins.

University of Santo Tomas-Ironcon Builers, which has  yet to see action in the new year, is second  with a 4-0  win-loss record.

Tournament director Albert Andaya said the top four teams after the   single-round elimination will advance to the semis outright with the No. 1 team  facing  the No. 4 squad and  the  No. 2 team battling  the No. 3 squad in a pair of  knockout  matches.

The winners  in  the semis will then dispute the title in a winner-take-all  encounter.

Multi-titled coach Loreto “Ato” Tolentino is the commissioner.
