ATENEO rookie Kiefer Ravena will receive the Smart MVP award when the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps holds its annual Collegiate Basketball Awards this Saturday at the Gateway Suites inside the Araneta Center in Cubao.
Along with Smart, the group of scribes from various broadsheets, tabloids and online publications decided to hand out the distinct honor to the young playmaker for his on and off-court brilliance.
Aside from winning this year’s UAAP Rookie of the Year honor and leading the Blue Eagles to their fourth straight men’s cage crown, Ravena was also a member of the Sinag Pilipinas team that won the gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games held in Jakarta.
During his high school career, he led Ateneo to three consecutive UAAP juniors championship and suited up for the National U-16 and U-18 teams, respectively, before deciding to stay at the Loyola campus for his collegiate playing years.
Recently, the 18-year-old son of former PBA star Bong and one-time volleyball national team player Mozzy Ravena, was instrumental in organizing a charity game for victims of Typhoon Sendong. UAAP and NCAA stars, together with some celebrities took part in the endeavor.
Meanwhile, University of Perpetual Help president Anthony Tamayo will also be recognized for his passionate service to youth and varsity sports.
