Lady Patriots draw 1st blood in volleyball finals

Games Tuesday (Olivarez College gym)
11:30 a.m. DLSU-Dasmarinas vs PMMS (men)
1 p.m. EAC-Cavite vs RTU (women)

DASMARINAS, Cavite — La Salle-Dasmarinas needed five sets to stop Rizal Technological University, 25-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16, 15-10, in Game 1 of the 19th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) women’s volleyball finals at the Lady Patriots’ home court — the Ugnayang La Salle gymnasium inside the DLSU-Dasmarinas campus.

Behind by nine points in the fourth set, the Patriots turned the tables around in the deciding fifth set to gain a head-start in their best-of-three series. The Lady Patriots can clinch the title if they win Game 2  against the Lady Thunder on Wednesday.

The RTU Lady Thunder turned back the Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite Vanguard, 25-10, 25-8, 25-14, last Thursday to arrange a best-of-three affair with the Lady Patriots.

This will be the fourth consecutive time for the Lady Patriots and the Lady Thunder to reach the championship round of this spikefest supported by Mikasa and Molten Balls, and ANI AgriNurture Inc.

Meanwhile, the second-seeded Philippine Merchant Marine Mariners and the La Salle-Dasmarinas Patriots will dispute  the second finals berth in the men’s basketball tournament at 11:30 a.m. today at the Olivarez College gymnasium in Sucat, Paranaque.
