Welcome back, champ

FRESH from his latest conquest, the great Manny Pacquaio returns early this morning, almost a week after dominating Sugar Shane Mosley in a 12-round fight for the welterweight championship of the world.

A big crowd is expected to welcome the  hero just before dawn today when he sets foot at terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport aboard Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR 103.

Accompanying Pacquiao in his 13-hour flight from Los Angeles are  wife Jinkee,  father Rosalio, brothers Bobby and Rogelio, Filipino trainers Nonoy Neri, Buboy and Flash Fernandez and close family members and friends who were all there when the world’s pound-for-pound boxer scored a  unanimous decision against Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last week.

Leading the list of welcomers will greet the eight-time world champion are the four Pacquaio children, namely, Jimwell, Emmanuel, Princess Grace and Queen Elizabeth, who haven’t seen their famous father for more than a month since the boxing superstar left for L.A to train at the Wild Card gym in Hollywood.

A short press conference will be held at the airport shortly upon Pacquiao’s arrival, before the entire entourage proceeds to the New World Hotel in Makati to refresh and take a sumptuous breakfast.

Not to be missed in the day-long itinerary of the Pacman is attending a thanksgiving Mass at the Quiapo church, a party-concert at the SM Mall of Asia, and another courtesy call to President Aquino at Malacañang.

Pacquiao will only spend a night in Manila and is expected to depart for General Santos City on Sunday in time for the birthday celebration of his  mother, Dionisia.

The lopsided win over Mosley was Pacquiao’s second successful title defense of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) 147-pound belt he won over Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto in 2009.

A short but vicious left straight by Pacquiao dropped Mosley in the third round, but the American  challenger managed to survive and finish the fight by backpedalling and running around the ring the rest of the way.

Top Rank Promotions of Bob Arum is looking to get Pacquiao back in the ring by November 12 opposite long time Mexican nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez.
