BUENAVISTA, Quezon -- Four barangay officials were wounded after they were shot by two suspected robbers inside a village councilman's house in Bgy. Manlana, here Tuesday.
Quezon police director Senior Supt. Ericson Velasquez identified the victims as Barangay Kagawad Vitaliano Abanilla, 35, chief tanod Tarsalito Masukol, 41, and his tanods Dante Palino, 37, and Edgardo del Rosario, 36.
The victims were rushed to a hospital of a nearby town. Two of them were transfered to a hospital in Lucena City for severe wounds.
Probers said the incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. while the victims were having a drinking party inside the house of Abanilla.
They said the suspects, armed with a 9mm pistol and a .45 pistol suddenly arrived and opened fired at the group. The suspects quickly escaped.
Police said the attack stemmed from a motorcycle allegedly stolen by the suspects which was recovered by the police through the help of the victims. At the height of their confrontation, the suspects pulled out their guns and shot the victims at close range.
One of the two suspects, Modesto Sison, was arrested yesterday in a hot pursuit operation by members of the Buenavista police led by Insp. Hobart Sarmiento and the Army's 74th Infantry Battalion. Sison was held at the municipal jail while his companion, Elmer Untalan, is still being tracked down by the authorities.
Scene of the Crime Operatives led by Supt. Rufina Baldovino recovered nine fired cartridge cases and a slug for .45 pistol, seven shells for 9mm pistol, and five deformed slugs for undetermined caliber at the scene.
