Roach excited about fight vs Marquez

HOLLYWOOD – Freddie Roach is more than looking forward to a third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez.

Besides the match being a ‘competitive one’, Roach also wants Pacquiao to finally settle once and for all the controversies surrounding the first two encounters between two of the best fighters in the world today.

“I’d like to see Manny shut him up because all he talks about is how he got robbed in those two fights,” said Roach.

Pacquiao and Marquez crossed paths twice in the past.

Their first meeting in 2004 ended  in a draw that saw Marquez, 37, rally after being dropped thrice by Pacquiao in the opening round. A return bout was held in 2008 which the Filipino won via split decision despite claims by the Mexican that he was denied of the victory.

Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum disclosed that depending on the results of the negotiations it is conducting with Marquez and his promoter Golden Boy, the 37-year-old native of Mexico City is next in line for the pound-for-pound king.

A likely date of Nov. 5 or 12 in Las Vegas had already been booked for the third and final installment of the highly-awaited trilogy.

Roach welcomes the bout very much.

“He’s a tough guy, he comes to fight,” Roach in a tribute to the durable Mexican warrior. “If they’re going to make the fight, I think the fight will sell. Marquez is the best challenger out there for us.”
