A Korean national was killed while his two companions were injured when the banana boat they were riding was accidentally hit by a motorized banca in Cebu last Sunday, People’s Tonight gathered yesterday.
Coast Guard spokesperson LCdr. Algier Ricafrente identified the three Korean nationals as Jing Xling Sock, 50, Lee Ok Kyung, 56, and Bang Mi Su, 51, guests of Manta Dive Shop in Cebu.
They went for a banana boat ride at around 11:20 a.m. when they were accidentally hit by motor banca RP Tide.
Coast Guard Station Cebu immediately directed CG Detachment Mandaue to verify the veracity of the report and render necessary assistance.
The CG later learned that the victims were rescued by the passing MB Smile and brought to Manta Dive Shop.
Upon arriving at the shop, the management immediately contacted the ERUF Medical Office who then decided to rush Jing Xling Sock to the Mactan Doctors Hospital onboard its ambulance.
Lee Ok Kyung and Bang Mi Su, on the other hand, were also rushed to the Mactan Doctors Hospital where attending physician declared Jing Xling Sock dead on arrival.
His body was turned over to the Rolling Hill Memorial Chapel in Banilad, Mandaue City while the two survivors are still undergoing medical treatment at the hospital.
The Korean Embassy is currently communicating with the victims’ respective family.
Meanwhile, the Lapu-Lapu Police Station detained the boat captain of M/Bca RP Tide, identified as Alisin Tungco, of Bgy. Tinago, Olango, Lapu-Lapu City, and the operator of the jetski used for the banana boat ride, identified as Jovani Paquibot, of Sabang, Olango Island.
Paquibot said that he did not notice the approaching M/B RP Tide because he was busy attending to his guests.
