Security guard dies in mishap, pal injured


A security guard died while her female colleague was injured after a speeding bus hit their mountain bike in Caloocan City yesterday morning.

Police said Benedict de Mesa, 24, died while undergoing treatment at the President Diosdado Macapagal Memorial MEdical Center due to severe head injuries.

His companion, Margie Brinzuela, 21, sustained body injuries and was taken to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Traffic investigators said Teodulfo Ceniza Jr., 41, married, of Bgy. Pulong Bugangin, Sta. Maria, Bulacan, and driver of Joanna Jesh Transport Corp. with office address at AFP-RSBS Compound, East Service Road, Western Bicutan, Tagig, surrendered to the authorities after the incident.

A report by SPO2 Virgilio Menina of the Caloocan City Traffic Enforcement Unit showed that the incident occured at the corner of 10th Avenue and B. Serrano St. at 5:15 a.m.

Investigators said the victims failed to see the bus when De Mesa made a right turn.

Ceniza was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide with physical injuries and damage to property before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office.
