ADAMSON and Manila scored shutout wins Thursday to advance into the cross-over semifinals in the women’s division of the 2011 Cebuana Lhuillier-Chooks To Go Summer Grand Slam softball invitational championships at the Wangal Sports Complex in La Trinidad, Benguet.
The Lady Falcons blanked Entom, 13-0, in Group A while Manila trampled BESAO, 17-0, in Group B. Both squads now have 4-0 (win-loss) records to make it safely into the Final Four.
Defending champion University of Sto. Tomas and Bulacan State University, both 2-0, will now have to fight it out for the remaining semifinals berths in Group A. BSU won twice also Thursday, defeating University of Cordillera, 7-0, and Benguet, 11-0.
In Group B, University of the Philippines will have to contend with Laguna for the last semis berth. UP beat Polytechnic University of the Philippines, 6-3, to improve its record to 2-1. Laguna has a 1-0 slate after its 15-0 victory over BESAO.
In men’s action, Marikina streaked to its third straight win in Group A after rolling to a 14-6 win against Zamboanga, which beat La Trinidad earlier in the day, 12-0.
The other men’s group has Philippine Air Force and Cavite City occupying the top spot with similar 3-0 records. PAF made short work of Bulacan State University (BSU), 12-2, while Cavite City shut out Benguet, 10-0.
Baguio City still has a chance to make it to the next round after registering a 16-1 win against Bibak for a 2-1 record.
To make sure that the competitions are balanced, members of both the Blu Boys and the Blu Girls were distributed evenly among the competing teams, according to ASAPHIL’s Jun Veloso.
