Commuters hit LTFRB on accident insurance

THE riding public yesterday hit the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board for its slow action on  the issue on insurance policies involving passengers and operators of public utility vehicles.

Victor de Ocampo, leader of the group called APEKTADO, an alliance of commuters disappointed over the lack of political will of some government officials, urged LTFRB chairman Nelson Laluces and officials of the Philippine Insurance Commission to act on the matter with dispatch.

“’Di puwedeng maging balakid ang pamumulitika para malagay sa alanganin ang kapakanan ng mga taong na-aaksidente sa lansangan,” he said.

The group slammed Laluces for allowing two insurance companies, PAMI and UNITRANS, to continue their operations after their contract with the LTFRB had already expired.

De Ocampo said that Transportation and Communications Secretary Ping de Jesus issued a “hold in abeyance” order to stop the operations of the two firms.

“Sana po tumahak sa tuwid na daan ang mga bagong upong opisyales para hindi naman nag-iisa ang Pangulong Noynoy Aquino sa kanyang administrasyon” De Ocampo said.
