SENIOR citizens and persons with disability (PWDs) should not be charged any fee for the use of any restroom or comfort room in all business establishments in Quezon City.
This was the proposal of Councilor Alexis Herrera in an ordinance he filed with the city council. Its main objective is to provide preferential treatment to the senior citizens and PWDs through easy access to public facilities like comfort rooms.
Herrera observed that some business establishments are charging a fee for the use of comfort rooms or rest rooms located in their establishments.
He stressed that due to this practice, most people who need to use the comfort room or rest room are constrained to look for the “free comfort room or rest room” which are oftentimes not easily accessible.
“The senior citizens and persons with disability are at a great disadvantage since they are less mobile/capable of walking further in order to respond to the call of nature,” Herrera said.
