THREE unidentified gunmen abducted and killed a businessman running for councilor in Cotabato City after he fought off his kidnappers yesterday.

Joseph K. Kuan, 39, of Manara Street, Rosary Heights  sustained gunshot wounds and died on the way to a hospital.

His two children identified as Jay Ann, 14, and Czarie, 6, were wounded when their vehicle crashed into a concrete fence.

A report from the Police Regional Office 12 said Kuan and his children were on board their Nissan pick-up when the gunmen flagged them down at 6 a.m. One of the suspects took over the steering wheel and sped off  to Barangay San Pablo.

Senior Supt. Willie Dangane, police director, said the victim put up a fight, causing the vehicle to ram a concrete fence.

He said  Supt. Alfredo Dangani and his men recovered two caliber .38 revolvers inside the victim’s vehicle.

“We are still conducting follow-up operations to identify and arrest the suspects and determining if this incident is connected with politics,” said Dangane.
