Investwell stuns Couriers, 62-54

INVESTWELL brought downPRC Couriers-Wang’s  Ballclub, 62-54, to make  it two  in a row in the 2011 MBL Invitational  (Second  Conference)  basketball championship  at the Lyceum gym in Intramuros, Manila.

Former Central Colleges of the Philippines standout Mark Pangilinan scattered 16 points and ex-Jose Rizal University mainstay Floyd   Dedicatoria added  11 points to power  the  Makati-based   import-export company of managers Rommel and Thess  Macasaet, coach Joel Jabar and consultant   Eugene Tan to its second straight win in this season-ending  tournament sponsored  by  Cebuana Lhuillier, Dickies  Underwear,  PRC  Couriers and WG Diner.

Pangilinan, the 6-1 forward who  played  for the   CCP   Bobcats in the CUSA,  provided  the outside   firepower, while  Dedicatoria, a  6-4 center who saw action for the   JRU  Heavy Bombers in the  NCAA,  dominated the shaded area to lead  Investwell, which debuted with a  73-57 win over MOB  Packers last Nov. 10.

The backcourt duo of Ronald Roy and Ram Macasaet provided ample support  for  Investwell by scoring 10 points apiece.

Nhoel  Baltazar  finished  with a  team-high 12 points for Wang's, which is being handled by coach Pablo  Lucas and  manager  Macky Villarta.

Fil-Am Anthony Cuevas and Jerry  Orera  added 10 points apiece and  Mar  Reyes contributed six points  for the Mandaluyong-based team.

The  tournament  resumes today  (Nov. 17)  with University of   Santo Tomas-Ironcon Builders and Letran College testing each other’ s mettle  in  the lone game at 7 p.m.

Handled  by coach Pido Jarencio, the Tigers  are seeking a follow-up to  their successful  title  campaign  in  the  MBL Ooen basketball championship last May.

Leading  the Tigers’  charge are  Jeric Teng,  Clark Bautista, Carmel Afuang, Chris  Camus Julius Fortuna  and  Kareem Abdul.

Letran, on the other hand, will  make its  much-awaited debut in the  MBL under multi-titled  coach Louie Alas.

The Knights will be led by  Kevin Alas,  Jam Cortez, BJ Espiritu, Kevin Racal  and Raymond Almazan.

Loreto “Ato” Tolentino is the  commissioner, while Albert Andaya is the tournament director.
