THREE brothers who robbed a store of over P400,000 in cash and valuables in Mercedes, Camarines Norte Sunday were arrested by policemen two hours after the crime, the Police Regional Office 5said. However, the stolen cash and assorted wristwatches worth over P20,000 were not recovered. Police said the loot may have been in the possession of the suspects’ cohort who is still being hunted. PRO5 director Chief Supt. Cecilio Calleja, Jr. said Zaldy Usua, 36, his brother Luito, 42, and Edgar, 31, were intercepted at a police checkpoint in Barangay Nipaan on board a motorcycle. They were positively identified by storeowners Andres Mata, 51, and his wife Angelita, 45, as the armed men who forcibly entered their store in Purok 3, Barangay Pambuhan at 8 p.m. The suspects hogtied Andres before ransacking the shop. They also robbed four female customers. The couple went to the place not knowing that a robbery was in progress. A brother-in-law of Andres, Federico Sillano, 47, tried to prevent the suspects from escaping and was shot but not hit. The suspects ran to the forested area of Barangay Pambuhan where they were cornered. They were detained at the Mercedes Municipal Police Station. |
