WHEN a movie is graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board and at the same time gets a nod of endorsement from CBCP (Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines) would that be a guarantee of success at the box-office?
We certainly hope so specially if the movie is megged by award-winning director, Marilou Diaz-Abaya. Who could forget the much-acclaimed and certified blockbusters, Jose Rizal and Muro-Ami?
Abaya makes a triumphant comeback in Ikaw ang Pag-ibig, a film produced for faith or religion. It stars Marvin Agustin, Jomari Yllana, Noni Buencamino, Sharmaine Centenera, Yogo Singh and Eddie Garcia in a special participation.
The movie is one of hope and inspiration (a theme which Thelma, another indie movie depicts). It revolves in the character of Vangie whose career as a video editor is disrupted when her only brother, a newly-ordained priest is diagnosed of acute leukemia. She is called upon to be a donor for Father Johnny's bone marrow transplant but is very reluctant. She is also pressured by the unending proposal of Dr. Joey Lucas to marry her because he is the father of their love child.
Soon she finds herself drawn to the Virgin Mary and begging for her intercession.
Fittingly, the movie is a tribute to Marilou who, in her five decades of involvement in the movie industry has helped uplift the level of local movie making.
Despite her health condition, Marilou has always been a fighter, an artist and a lover of life.
By all means, whatever is your faith , go and watch the film and be touched. Importantly, endorse it as well to people you meet..
MARTIN TAKES THE RISK
IT is good to see that the indie movie, Zombadings is doing well at select cinemas. What we enjoyed most is the "delicious" and almost effortless performance of its young lead, Martin Escudero who took the risk of portraying a risky role of a gay.
We hope Martin's career will not suffer and be in the list of actors "gone gay" on the big screen and failed to achieve stardom.
It would be wise that as a follow-up project, Martin avoids doing another gay character. Mahirap nang ma-type cast.
‘MAD ABOUT ACOUSTIC'
IF you think acoustic is out, you are wrong.
In Davey... Mad About Acoustic, by Viva Records, listeners get to enjoy interesting and impressive "acousticized" versions of today's popular hits such as Poker Face, Love, Sex and Magic and Jai Ho.
On vocals is Pinoy Dream Academy Season l scholar and the next acoustic sensation to conquer the local music scene. Davey has definitely found his voice in the music industry through Mad About Acoustic.
He emerged with his own unique musical style in his version of Poker Face which is enjoying massive airplay on the radio.
