A TRUCK driver was shot dead by a robber when he tried to escape in Taytay, Rizal.
PO2 Nythan Hung, in his report to Rizal police director Senior Supt. Manuel Cesar Prieto, said Arnulfo Panegro, 42, married, of Bonifacio St., Malumanay Road, Purok 2, Sitio Lupang Arenda, Taytay, Rizal, sustained gunshot wounds in the body and died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Investigators said that at about 1:20 a.m., the victim was driving a delivery truck, together with his helper, when a group of men blocked his path on Abnay Road in Lupang Arenda, and at gunpoint announced the heist.
One of the suspects approached the victim, who, for fear, stepped on the gas instead of the brakes, prompting the suspect to shot him.
The companions of the suspect, upon hearing of the gunfire, ran away.
“Nang marinig daw ng mga kasama ang putok ay nataranta ang mga kasama ng suspek at nagtakbuhan ang mga ito at iniwan ang kasama nilang namaril na mabilis din tumakas,” the helper of the victim said.
The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died while udnergoing treatment.
