AN estimated P10 million worth of fake Lacoste products were seized by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in separate raids in Metro Manila which led to the arrest of a Filipino-Chinese said to be behind the importation and sale of the counterfeit signature products including shirts, bags and shoes, CIDG director Chief Supt. Samuel D. Pagdilao Jr. announced yesterday.
Pagdilao said Susan Ong, owner of the raided establishments at the ground floor of Terminal Plaza in Baclaran, Parañaque City and a stockroom at the 3rd floor of Unit 304 at no. 215 F. Angeles Street in Pasay City, will be facing charges for trademark infringement in relation to the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
According to the CIDG director, members of the CIDG National Capital Region Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit headed by Senior Supt. Joel Napoleon Coronel confiscated some 22,000 pieces of assorted fake Lacoste shirts during the separate raids conducted on the strength of two search warrants issued by Judge Ma. Theresa Dolores C. Gomez-Estoesta of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 7.
The raids conducted Thursday last week stemmed from complaints of Lacoste Philippines regarding the proliferation of fake Lacoste products including shirts, belts, pants, shoes and other men and women’s apparel being sold with impunity in different shopping centers in Metro Manila particularly Manila, Pasay and San Juan.
