Magtibay rules  solo  the  2010  World  Slasher  Cup-- 240 entries

Bagging  a  rare 8-0 win-loss record in the   historic 240-entry 2010 World Slasher Cup 8-Cock International Derby, held from Jan. 18-24 at the Araneta Coliseum, was   reigning Bakbakan 10-Stag National Derby champion Engr. Sonny Magtibay , a native of Palawan with his breeding farm in Malvar, Batangas and a conditioning farm in Laguna.

Thru his now well-known entry  name RM Red Cobra Farm, 33 year old Magtibay achieved the incredible feat conditioning his birds with Thunderbird Bexan XP.

Humbly admitting that his Sweater-based roosters are of bloodlines that most cockers have, he  is also proud to say that Team Red Cobra with his handler Ritchie “Enteng” Buatag and  pointer Eddie Pontero, have almost perfected a method in conditioning the hard-to-tune Sweaters. “Bexan is a major factor”,  says Magtibay.

Boy Marzo  conquers  the 2010  San Juan International 8-Cock  Derby  -- 165 entries

Former commercial airline pilot, Civil Engineer and contractor Boy Marzo of La Union annexed his second world title by outclassing 164 other entries in the Jan. 28 -Feb. 1, 2010 San Juan Coliseum   8-Cock International Derby with a  perfect score of  eight wins in as many fights.

Boy prepared 4 of his signature Sweater-Gilmore aces in the finals, but he   was not happy with the two of them because their grades were just 9.5 and not 10 points as Marzo would prefer. His son-in-law  Ricki Reyes offered two of his  multi-winners, a Grey of an  unknown line and a Double-Right  broodcock from Bruce Barnett.

The win gave Marzo’s famous BM Blulalayaw entry its second international derby title, the first of which was a World Slasher Cup victory in 2005.

Marzo, who is the country’s  most requested seminar speaker was quick to say, “Palagi akong tinatanong sa mga seminars kung ano ang sekreto ko. Isa lang naman ang sagot ko…mag-Bexan ka.”

De la Pena brothers of Guimaras win the 2010 Candelaria 7-Cock Derby

It was their first time to compete in the Candelaria Derby, but the quest to win the prestigious Annual Candelaria 7-Cock International Derby  started some 10 years back for the Dela Pen(a brothers (Freddie, Donald, Jun and Zeus who just passed the Nursing Board Exam), when they first planned to join and win the prestigious title.

Their entry Bests of Jaguar ( a name given by the financer Laña Brothers) drew its first fight, then went on to win the next six matches for a total unmatched score of 6.5 points  to rule over 164 other entries.

Best of  Jaguar fielded 4 white-legged fighters which are three-way crosses composed of Kelso, Sweater & Roundhead; 2 Blue-Faced McLean Hatches and a  old-feathered rooster which they call Golden Bird.

A trusting user of and Thunderbird Bexan XP and Thunderbird Platinum over the past ten years, the Dela Peña Brothers are known for their regular entry name ALGUIM which is short for Bgy. Alagisoc, Guimaras where they were born and raised.

The champion’s handler is the brother’s cousin Agustin Flores, while their gaffer is Jerson Laña.

“Maayo gid an Bexan”, was the  common verdict of the brothers after bagging the frist ever Candelaria title for Guimaras which from now on will not only be know for its delicious mangoes, but also for its good fightingcocks.
