PH aviation ‘on the right track,’ hehehe!

LESS I be misunderstood by readers, I reiterate that I do not relish being harsh in my criticisms of the prosecution panel’s performance at the ongoing impeachment trial of SC Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Neither am I playing the role of “obstructionist” on the things that the Aquino administration wants to accomplish under P-Noy’s “daang matuwid” vision for the country in the way I also criticize the performance of his administration, most especially, his appointees.

Regular followers of this corner can affirm that in past articles that I wrote in the early days of P-Noy’s presidency, when the entire nation is still intoxicated for his winning the presidential contest, I suggested that he focus his attention on the legacy that he wants to leave behind, on how he would want to be remembered by his fellow citizens, when he steps down four years from now.

Only by having this “philosophy” in mind -- and which he should turn into official policy -- can P-Noy endeavour to fulfil his campaign promises and not be led astray by the many competing political and economic interests that now surround him.

But apparently lacking in concern on how history would judge him and his presidency, P-Noy, it is plain obvious, is being tossed this way and that by the many “advisers” who merely sees him as a “tool” to advance the class and personal interests that they embodied.

In the case of CJ Corona and the deeper issue of judicial abuse connected in his impeachment trial, this corner would not mind if P-Noy decides to depopulate the entire bench and place there people truly beholden and respectful to the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution.

But the sad fact is that, those with whom he placed his trust and confidence to do the job, the prosecution panel formed by his congressional allies (the majority of them, at least) are woefully and embarrassingly amateurish, boorish and plain incompetent to do it.

In the more important area of PH aviation that only last week, during an event in Clark, P-Noy boasted is headed for better days, this is again another “illusion” being foisted on him by the bosses at the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) headed by DG Ramon Gutierrez.

And DOTC Sec. Mar Roxas, the CAAP top boss, should be credited in seeing the plain truth behind the suave claim by the CAAP gang of DG Gutierrez that, quoting the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) technical team, the country is “on the right track” insofar as our regaining Category 1 status is concerned.

Well, Sec. Mar simply walked out from the FAA exit briefing last Friday because the sharp mind in him concluded that the country is still so far away from regaining Category 1 status under the present situation prevailing at the CAAP. Surely, Sec. Mar knows when he is hearing BS, hehehe!

I also find it quite amusing the FAA’s alleged statement, attributed by P-Noy’s appointees at the CAAP (appointed on the backing of ES Jojo Ochoa), that the CAAP has accomplished a lot in the past six months than in the last five years.

As insiders told me, the FAA team last Wednesday was even raging that the defects in the CAAP systems and procedures and operations uncovered by the FAA in 2007 (leading to our Category 2 downgrading) remained basically the same as today! And adding to their dismay was that they also pointed these 8 CAAP shortcomings during their first visit six months ago.

Incidentally, this was also the day when P-Noy was boasting that PH aviation is headed towards better day, thus the stunned reaction from those in the know “Kuya Paul, alam ba ni P-Noy ang sinasabi niya?”

Well then, some five years  after the downgrade, the best the CAAP can boast today is that we are on the “right track?” Talaga naman, hehehe!

Intriguing too was the FAA’s alleged suggestion that the current CAAP management headed by Gutierrez be retained and be given full support by the government instead if the country is to regain its Category 1 status.

Translated, they are pleading not to be wiped out, err, not to be removed from their jobs, despite bungling the trust and confidence that P-Noy awarded to them, a development that Sec. Mar reportedly wants to happen in the coming days.

Indeed, it should be noted that if there is any “accomplishment” that the CAAP can brag these days is the fact that it has become one large EMPLOYMENT AGENCY for the cronies, friends, relatives and acolytes of its top bosses. Needless to say, these new hirelings are not necessarily competent or trustworthy.

As of last month, December, sources said the CAAP already has 125 “consultants” roaming all over the place, eating up over P6 million in monthly allowances and other perks -- to the detriment of the hardworking plantilla holders in the agency.

Again, PH aviation on the right track? Bwahaha!

Paano... Read more

FOR Sen. Joker Arroyo, the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona goes far beyond that. He has called the dangerous trajectory of the Aquino presidency as a blatant grab for power “disguised as transparency.” Senator Arroyo, a human rights lawyer who served as President Cory Aquino’s first executive secretary,... Laguna Rep.
