BEFORE proceeding, my best wishes and hope for a peaceful celebration tomorrow of the feast of St. Paul the Hermit, the patron saint of our city of San Pablo. Likewise, to the residents of Tondo, Manila, on the feast of Sto.

Happy reading too, to couple Bobot and Jane Alias of Aparri,

Cagayan. Long time, no see!

Terrorists continue to ply their trades thru the selective killing of unwary civilians, scholars and scientists.

And bearing the brunt of these attacks is not the Philippines, not yet, but the Islamic Republic of Iran, which, according to yesterday’s news reports, saw the death of its fourth scientist in just two years, 32-year old Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan.

Taking off from the skilled talents of the notorious RIT (riding-in-tandem) terrorising our streets, two suspects on board a motorcycle reportedly planted a “magnetic bomb” in his car while it was stuck in heavy traffic on Wednesday. The ‘high-tech’ explosive immediately killed Roshan and his driver.

Now, as much as Israel and its patron, U.S. imperialism, would want to wash their hands in the ongoing serial killing of Iranian academicians and scientists, the accusing finger can only point to them.

My point in writing this is to demonstrate the true face of U.S. imperialism -- it is the world’s number one sponsor of terrorism. Indeed, it is the world’s Numero Unong Terorista!

And for as long as the United States continues to meddle in our affairs and throw its protective arms behind the MILF, a fact that cannot be hidden anymore, peace will always remain elusive.

“If there is still doubt in anybody’s mind that (NCRPO director) that Allan (Purisima) would not be the next chief PNP after Nick Bart (Chief PNP Nicanor Bartolome), it was erased during his birthday celebration at the NCRPO,” thus narrated one of the guests to me.

For instead of just dropping by to greet Dir. Allan, P-Noy stayed for over two hours, graciously exchanging pleasantries to everyone present and in the process. It may not be his intention but P-Noy just sent the unmistakable message that Dir. Allan is his “batang sarado.”

As it is, such public demonstration of personal presidential favor to a select group of public officials belonging to the ‘KKK’ group -- kamag-anak, kabarilan, kakilala, etc., etc., -- also undermines the authority of those presently occupying their posts on the approval also of P-Noy and, the merit and promotions systems inherent in their respective organizations.

Now, I have nothing personal against Dir. Allan, whom I have yet to meet. But he should be wary of the fact that each day and hour that he drops his closeness to P-Noy, it is an attack on the authority of his immediate superior, Chief PNP Nick Bartolome.

Thus, each time I saw, heard and read that DG Nick’s authority is being blatantly or unwittingly subverted by his fellow officials who love to brag and quote their closeness to P-Noy and his immediate family, my heart bleeds for the man I consider a friend.

Kaya nga ang panukala ng iba, lusawin na lang ninyo -- you read it right, SILG Jesse and Usec.

Puno?

From the very start, this corner has consistently pushed for the professionalization of the PNP and AFP promotions system. It is the bedrock of a truly professional and state-loyal security forces.

Indeed, P-Noy and the rest of our officials can drill their call for loyalty to the country and the service into the brains of our enlisted personnel and officer corps.

But if they are aware that “palakasan,” in short, ass-licking, is the surest way to get promotion and position, then a warped, corrupt understanding of loyalty in their ranks is the result.

In other words, the final responsibility clearly lies with P-Noy.

Amen.
