P1.5-M cigarettes in van stolen

A VAN containing cigarettes worth about P1.5 million was stolen by four unidentified men the other day in Malate, Manila.

Insp. Erwin Maluyo of the Manila Police District-Anti-Carnapping and Carjacking Unit (MPD-ANCAR) said the incident happened around 8 a.m., when the suspects on board a Toyota Revo blocked the van, a Mitsubishi Canter (XTW-900), in front of the St. Harold Funeral Parlor located at the corner of Adriatico Street and  Quirino Avenue in Malate.

The said van reportedly contained 160 boxes of branded menthol cigarettes which were about to be delivered to various outlets

After blocking the way of the van, two armed men alighted and at gunpoint ordered the van’s driver and helper to get out.  They were then directed to board the suspects’ vehicle while the armed men commandeered the van

The driver and helper were then brought to Kawit, Cavite, where they were left unharmed.

The van was later recovered somewhere in Vitas, Tondo but all its contents were already gone.                 Itchie G. Cabayan

The Philippine economy, as measured by the gross national product, eked out a mere  3.7-growth  in 2011 despite government efforts to boost spending in the fourth  quarter. The government’s last-quarter effort to boost total economic output was restrained by the slowdown in exports and the lingering debt problem in Europe.... Read more

An impeachable offense is whatever a majority of the House considers it to be at any given moment in history; conviction results from whatever offense  two-thirds of the other body (the Senate) considers to be sufficiently serious to require removal of the accused from office. – Former US President Gerald...
