A HIGH-RANKING leader of the House of Representatives yesterday appealed to all quarters to refrain from discussing the circumstances surrounding the electoral sabotage case filed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for alleged rigging of the 2007 elections.
Although it may sound political in nature, House Majority Leader and Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales II underscored the importance of giving Judge Jesus Mupas of the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 112 the independence to fairly decide on the fate of Mrs. Arroyo, now a Pampanga lawmaker.
“Yes all parties should refrain from making comments and allow the wheels of justice to roll. Let us give the concerned branch of the Pasay RTC the chance to intelligently and independently decide on the merits of the case against the former President,” said Gonzales.
Last Friday afternoon, Mupas ordered Mrs. Arroyo arrested, prompting authorities to place her under hospital arrest at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City because of her poor health.
But Cavite Rep. Joseph Emilio Aguinaldo Abaya Jr., a lawyer, expressed serious doubts whether concerned individuals and groups would agree to a moratorium on the case.
“It will be wishful thinking on our part for that to happen, especially when there will surely be a battle for public perception,” said Abaya.

Sila’y tinatakot, pinapapatay at madalas ay kinakasuhan ng libelo para lang perhuwisyuhin at patahimikin. Kung minsan, sila ay nakukulong... Read more
