FILIPINOS continue to sneak out as tourists to seek work in Jordan despite a deployment ban being implemented by the government. As a result, there are over 100 domestic helpers, including four minors, who were abused, some of them sexually harassed, and maltreated by their Jordanian employers.
Some of the victims will come home this month.
Most of the workers are now sheltered at the Filipino Workers Resource Center at the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Amman.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the illegally staying Filipinos will avail of the pardon issued by Jordan. The Philippine government provided the plane ticket for the Filipinos.
Baldoz directed the National Reintegration Center for OFWs to prepare the package of welfare and livelihood assistance for the arriving OFWs. The repatriates can avail of the Balik-Pinas Balik-Hanapbuhay program that provides a P10,000 assistance to start a small business.
