THE third batch of Filipino seamen numbering 111 from MV Costa Concordia arrived in Manila yesterday.
Reports from the Philippine Embassy in Rome said that the third batch of Filipino crew members of the MV Costa Concordia left Rome on January 20.
Embassy officials led by Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes Jr. were at the Fiumicino Airport to send off and assist the 111 Filipino sea as they boarded their flights home. Out of the 296 Filipino crew members of the MV Costa Concordia, 182 have safely gone back to the Philippines, while the remaining three Filipinos are scheduled to leave Italy yesterday.
Three batches of 48, 17 and 18 and another 28 seafarers arrived in separate flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and were welcomed by a team from the DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (DFA-OUMWA), led by DFA-OUMWA Executive Director Ricardo Endaya.
Prior to their departure, a Thanksgiving Mass for the Filipino crew members was held yesterday at a local church located in the vicinity of Hilton Hotel where the Filipino seamen are temporarily staying while waiting to be repatriated back to the Philippines. It was organized by Filipino priests in Rome.
In his message after the Mass, Ambassador Reyes commended the Filipino crew members for their courage, perseverance and professionalism. Cristina Lee-Pisco
