2 Pinoys killed in collapse of Beirut building

THE Department of Foreign Affairs yesterday confirmed the death of two Filipinos in the collapse of a residential building in Beirut recently.

DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez told Radyo Inquirer 990AM in an interview that another Filipino worker was reported missing. More than 20 people died in the incident.

Hernandez also told Radyo Inquirer that the 296 Filipinos working on board the ill-fated cruise ship Costa Concordia will be home soon.

He said the Filipinos are now waiting to be repatriated to the country. The shipping company which owned the cruise liner will shoulder the plane fares of the Filipinos, Hernandez added.

The Costa Concordia with some 4,200 passengers hit a sandbar and ran aground off the coast of Tuscany in Italy over the weekend, prompting an evacuation of the luxury liner.   Jun Pisco
