THIRTY-FIVE overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) boarded the International Office of Migration-chartered boat sailing from the port of Tripoli to Benghazi, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
From Benghazi, where they will disembark, the OFWs will proceed by land to Egypt for repatriation to Manila.
Some OFWs from other workplaces could not be brought to the port because of heavy fighting in the streets of Tripoli, DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said.
The team will try to fetch them today for a second boat trip.
The Philippine government had raised the crisis alert level in Libya to “4,” which means mandatory evacuation and repatriation.
Reports said rebels have taken control the capital of Libya but pro-Gaddafi forces continue to fight the rebels.
