HOME at last but seriously ill.
After spending at least 25 years in Saudi Arabia, a cancer-stricken overseas Filipino worker finally returned home — on a wheel chair.
Josephine Muyco, 64, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Wednesday afternoon on board a Saudia Airlines flight from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Despite of her illness, Muyco, a native of Passi, Iloilo, was happy to be reunited with her relatives.
The domestic helper said she was given medical assistance by fellow Filipinos helping distressed and needy peers in Saudi Arabia.
In a message, Joseph Henry Espiritu, a leader of Filipino helping OFWs in the Middle East, asked the government to provide livelihood and financial aid to OFWs like Muyco, who is suffering from stage 4 cancer.
He said OFWs like Muyco “deserve more help” due to their contributions to the economy. Likewise, he pushed for mandatory insurance especially for undocumented OFWs.
Muyco said she has no family of her own and the only reason she worked in a foreign land was to help her relatives, particularly her nephew and niece who are in college.
“Maligaya ako kahit na nag-iisa lang sa buhay na nagta-trabaho sa Saudi dahil napapaligaya ko naman ang mga mahal ko sa buhay na mapag-aral ko sila at matulungan sa kanilang hirap na buhay,” Muyco said.
