Panfilo Lacson yesterday expressed optimism that discrepancies between the statement of alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and Senator Leila de Lima’s former driver-bodyguard Ronnie Dayan will be resolved in the hearing tomorrow.
Kerwin was summoned again to the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous drugs hearing while Dayan will face the Senate for the first time.
However, Lacson said the investigation will not delve into the seven-year romantic relationship of De Lima and Dayan but the inquiry might tackle personal matters to clear up certain issues.
Lacson has said that he was more interested in the truth behind the killing of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., father of Kerwin.
Among the inconsistencies Lacson hoped will be resolved are the dates of the supposed meetings of Dayan and Kerwin with De Lima. Kerwin and Dayan both implicated De Lima in illegal drug trade when she was still Justice Secretary.
“Ibabalik [si Kerwin[ para i-resolve nila iyong inconsistencies,” said Lacson, referring to Espinosa’s claim that it was Albuera police head Chief Insp. Jovie Espenido who introduced him to Dayan.
Dayan has denied knowing Espenido.
“So sino nag-introduce kanino?” said Lacson.
In his testimony before the committee, Kerwin claimed that he delivered money to Dayan and met De Lima at Burnham Park in Baguio City in November 2015. But Dayan told the House hearing that the meeting took place in 2014.
Aside from the two, Lacson said they have invited a police officer from the regional police of the Cordillera Autonomous Region to the resumption of the hearing to testify on the logbook of the hotel where Espinosa stayed during the meet-up in Baguio City on November 2015.
Kerwin’s lawyer, Leilani Villarino, said they will present a witness that would corroborate Kerwin’s earlier statement that he met De Lima and his driver and alleged bagman, Dayan, in Baguio.
“Meron kaming corroborative witness specifically na yung time sa Baguio, nandoon sila nung November 2015…Wala po siya nung nagbigay nung pera pero alam niya,” Villarino said.
Meanwhile, De Lima has said that she will not be at the hearing tomorrow.
