SENATOR Panfilo Lacson will try to establish the “connection” between Ronnie Dayan, former driver-lover of Sen. Leila de Lima, and some officials of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Eastern Visayas who were earlier linked to the drug trade by confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa.
Dayan will appear on Dec. 12 at the Senate investigation into the killing of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. by a team of CIDG men last Nov. 5 at his cell in the Baybay, Leyte subprovincial jail.
The CIDG raiding team claimed that the elder Espinosa fired at them when they tried to serve him a search warrant for firearm and illegal drugs.
“Ang gusto ko rin malaman dito, meron bang connection si Dayan sa grupo ng CIDG?” said Lacson in a radio interview. He raised the possibility that in 2015 De Lima and Dayan had visited Leyte in preparation for her plan to run for the Senate in 2016.
Lacson said that it had already been established that De Lima had a “link” with the younger Espinosa, who claimed that through Dayan, he gave her, when she was still justice secretary, P8 million in three tranches to fund her senatorial bid.
