ILOCOS Norte Governor Imee Marcos yesterday thanked President Rodrigo Duterte and the Supreme Court for allowing the burial of her father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LnmB).

The late president was finally laid to rest at the LnmB at noon yesterday amid pending petition from former alleged victims of Martial Law rule asking the Supreme Court to overturn its Nov. 8 ruling allowing the burial of the elder Marcos at the LnmB.

Marcos Sr., born on Sept. 11, 1917, was a World War II veteran and served as President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. He died on Sept. 28, 1989 while in exile in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was allowed to be interred in locos Norte in Sept. 1993.

“Sa wakas napatupad sa araw na ito ang huling habilin ng aking minamahal na ama, ang dating Pangulong Ferdinand Edralin Marcos na maihimlay kasama ng kanyang mga kapwa sundalo,” said Imee, in a prepared speech.

Aside from Imee, also present during the burial rites were former First Lady and now Rep. Imelda Marcos, former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and Irene Marcos-Araneta and a handful of close relatives and friends.

Imee said her family had waited for the moment to bury her father at the LnmB.
