VALENZUELA City Mayor Rex Gatchalian and his city police chief Senior Supt. Ronaldo Mendoza led a team of policemen during a surprise inspection of the four-storey city jail building yesterday morning on Maysan Road, Bgy. Malinta.
Mayor Gatchalian said the inspection dubbed “Oplan-Galugad,” aims to look into the current state of the facility, following the influx of new detainees as a result of the city’s drive against illegal drugs and to test the new narcotics and explosives-sniffing dogs that the city acquired for the Valenzuela Police Station.
The mayor said they have to ascertain what other assistance the local government could provide the local Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and to see if the jail guards were still on their toes in guarding inmates wherein majority were facing drug charges.
It was learned that 10 sniffer dogs were utilized in the operation composed of three Belgian malinois, two Jack russel, three Beagles, one Labrador narcotics sniffer and one Belgian malinois explosives sniffer.
