THE Duterte administration, which ends at 12 noon on June 30, 2022, can make history by ending hunger in the country, where the poor comprise the bulk of the population.
Likewise, President Rodrigo “Digong” R. Duterte is resolved to improve the situation of poverty-stricken areas affected by armed conflict, particularly Mindanao.
“I want the incidence of hunger stopped,” said Duterte at the launching of the Comprehensive Reform and Development Agenda for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Duterte, the first Mindanaoan to occupy the top political post of the land, made the statement at the launching ceremony in Cotabato City.
The hard-hitting Chief Executive from Davao City had earlier told the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to prioritize Mindanao.
“Ma’am (Secretary Judy Taguiwalo), please do something kasi nakita ko, the highest incidence of hunger,” said President Duterte.
He assured that Mindanao will have a share of the national wealth, adding “you will have your own share of development.”
Note that President Duterte has issued Executive Order No. 5, which states that one of its goals is to eradicate poverty by 2040, if not sooner.
Deputy Director-General Rosemarie G. Edillon of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) acknowledged that there’s still so much work to be done.
But she assured that the authorities have already begun to lay a strong foundation for the kind of development we want that will enable every Filipino to enjoy a “matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay.”
