EMILIO Aguinaldo College seeks its second straight win when it meets New San Jose Builders in the 2016 MBL Open basketball tournament at the EAC gym.
Buoyed by a dramatic, come-from-behind 74-70 win over Philippine Air Force last week, the Generals are expected to go all-out for back-to-back victories in the single-round tournament organized by the MBL as part of its 17th year anniversary celebrations.
Handled by coach Ariel Sison and assistant coach Bong Melocoton, the Generals will parade the same line-up that beat the Jet Force in a thrilling down the wire encounter away from home.
Juju Bautista, Jeric Diego and Jethro Mendoza, Rustan Bugarin and Jeanu Carlo Gano will lead the Generals’ charge.
“This is another good exposure for our players as we continue to build up for the future. The MBL provides a good challenge to our team,” said Sison.
Last May, Sison steered EAC to fourth place in the 2016 MBL First Conference with a 4-5 win-loss record.
The Malate-based Generals defeated Jamfy-Secret Spices, 99-79, in their knockout quarterfinals but lost to eventual champion Macway Travel Club, 68-76, in the semis.
San Jose Builders, which finished third in the MBL First Conference, hopes to snap a four-game losing skid and barge into the win column.
The Rainier Carpio-mentored Builders will rely on Nikko Lao, Jayson Grimaldo. Chris Bitoon,, Darryl Aurelio, Justin Padua, Kevin Sumay, Jon Acuzar, Ivan Cruz, Lucky Palogan, Mark Puspus, RR Telles, Reymark Mallari , Ricky Supanes and playing manager Jomar Acuzar.
Team consulrant is coach Jino Manansala of newly-crowned NAASCU champion St. Clare College-Caloocan.
